Who Did the Dolphins Draft in 2023?

The Dolphins only made four picks in the 2023 NFL Draft and didn’t pick in the first, fourth, or fifth rounds.

Miami’s first pick in the draft was South Carolina cornerback Cam Smith, who the team drafted 51st overall in the second round. Smith has spent most of the season on special teams, playing behind Jalen Ramsey, Xavien Howard, and Kader Kohou on defense.

The Dolphins added to their offense with their third-round pick, selecting Texas A&M running back De’Von Achane. Achane instantly provided a spark as a rusher, rushing for 461 yards and five touchdowns on just 39 rushes. His 11.8 yards per attempt lead the NFL this season, proving his explosiveness with the ball in his hands.

Miami used their sixth-round pick to select wide receiver Elijah Higgins out of Stanford. Higgins did not make the team and is currently on the Arizona Cardinals as a tight end.

The Dolphins’ final pick in the 2023 NFL Draft also didn’t make the team’s initial roster. The team spent their seventh-round pick on Michigan offensive lineman Ryan Hayes but waived him. Hayes spent a few weeks on the practice squad with the Indianapolis Colts before the Dolphins signed him to their active roster.
