New York is already falling in love with Saquon

Saquon Barkley hit the links earlier this week and the New York Giants’ Instagram account caught him looking fit in his golf attire. The picture went viral and inspired a host of golfer-inspired nicknames for the former Penn State tailback. Which one is your favorite? I’m partial to “Bubba Quadson” myself.

In other Saquon news, current Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley gushed to the New York Post about Barkley’s ability and work ethic. I love how he makes comparisons to Bo Jackson and Barry Sanders even though both were retired from football by the time Mac was three years old.

More than three months away from football, and we’re already talking depth chart

The Nittany Lions are dealing with heavy roster turnover in the back seven heading into 2018, and defensive coordinator Brent Pry is having a tough time deciding on the new starters. He broke down the decision-making process for the linebackers and secondary in an interview with 247Sports. If Penn State is going to contend for a national title in 2018, the new starters on defense are going to have to outperform the guys they are replacing.

Ohio State is still loaded at quarterback

Over in Columbus, the transfer plans of Joe Burrow makes Dwayne Haskins the favorite to land the starting quarterback job for Ohio State. However, redshirt freshman Tate Martell is also in the running. Martell, a five-star recruit out of Las Vegas, was named national player of the year by Gatorade, MaxPreps, and USA Today for the 2016 season.

I went to college with Chewbacca

Joonas Suotamo’s strange life journey took him from Finland to Penn State to Hollywood, and now he’s starring in Solo: A Star Wars Story as Chewbacca this month. ESPN is featuring the former Penn State basketball player on E:60 this Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Here’s a quick preview for your viewing pleasure. Suotamo may not have been a big star in his playing days, but being able to tell Star Wars dorks that you saw Chewbacca play in college is pretty rewarding.

DePaul again?

Those hoping that Penn State’s NIT championship would lead to a juicy matchup in the Gavitt Tipoff Games was disappointed this week, as the school announced that it will play DePaul in Chicago as part of the annual clash with the Big East. The Blue Demons were ranked No. 99 in KenPom to end the 2017-18 campaign, finishing tied for last in the Big East with 4-14 league record (11-20 overall).
