Of love & roses

Drew Brees is a Significant Sig (Purdue University – Delta Delta Chapter). He’s a man of good character. He’s a credit & honor to our Fraternity in more ways than one. He’s a leader by example, true character in action. He’s one of the NFL’s most dangerous quarterbacks.

Simply said, Drew Brees is all of the above & much more.

Brother Brees is also the recipient of Sports Illustrated‘s 57th Sportsman of the Year Award & rightly so: not only did he lead the New Orleans Saints to its first-ever Super Bowl & the first-ever Super Bowl Championship in the franchise’s history. Brees also threw all of his energies into helping the city of New Orleans recover after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Truly, he played a part in turning tragedy into triumph, showing others not only why he’s a Significant Sig (& one of the most amazing Significant Sigs around) but also what makes Drew Brees such an amazing person, period.

Ever since his arrival in New Orleans back in 2006, Brother Brees has not only brought hope to the city of New Orleans. He’s also shown us what a Man of Good Character can do to make a difference for his community. Case in point: The Brees Dream Foundation (which he & his wife, Brittany, established). Its goal is to advance research in the fight against cancer & to provide care, education & opportunities for children in need. Over time, Brees’ foundation has helped raise over $6 million, mainly in New Orleans & the surrounding area as well as in San Diego (where he began his NFL career) & West Lafayette (Purdue University, Brees’ alma mater).

Brother Brees deserves the Sportsman of The Year Award for much more than his ability to play football. He’s also a leader off the field as well, as his efforts with the Brees Dream Foundation have shown (among other things). He helped bring hope to the city of New Orleans. He showed the city’s residents that they were not alone. He had this singleness of purpose which in effect told others, “If I lead, others will follow.” (& did he ever, both on & off the field.)

Above all, Brother Brees is true character in action, a true leader by example & a Significant Sig who lives the core values of our Fraternity in all that he does.
