Bio Complete 3 is a gut health supplement manufactured by a brand called Gundry MD. The company claims their product has prebiotic, probiotic and post-biotic ingredients to support optimal gut function, and that this ingredient blend can improve energy levels and reduce cravings.

But are the ingredients in Bio Complete 3 actually proven to have these effects or are these just marketing claims? Does Bio Complete 3 have any unhealthy additive ingredients? And how do real users rate and describe the effects of this supplement?

In this article we’ll answer all of these questions and more as we review every ingredient in Bio Complete 3 based on clinical research to give our take on whether the supplement is likely to be effective for improving gut health or if it’s a waste of money.

Ingredient Analysis – Will Bio Complete 3 Work?

Bio Complete 3 has three active ingredients: CoreBiome, SunFiber and Bacillus Coagulans (ProDura).

CoreBiome is the post-biotic ingredient, and this is a relatively new term that describes ingredients used to heal the gut lining and improve gut health overall.

We can’t find any information on what ingredients are actually in CoreBiome, and the ingredient is manufactured by a company called Compound Solutions that fails to describe the specific ingredients used on its product page.

We cannot identify any medical research suggesting that this compound is effective for improving gut health.

SunFiber is the prebiotic ingredient, and prebiotics are a class of compounds that can help to feed the healthy bacteria in the gut.

This patented type of fiber, derived from guar gum, is proven in clinical studies to be effective for improving gut health but may be significantly underdosed in Bio Complete 3.

A medical review on SunFiber published in the Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition recommended a minimum dietary fiber intake of 20,000 milligrams (mg) daily. Bio Complete 3 provides 200 mg, or 1% of the recommended minimum amount.

We cannot identify any medical studies suggesting that 200 mg of SunFiber has any benefit, nor does Gundry MD cite any on their product page.

ProDura is a trademarked type of Bacillus coagulans, which is a probiotic. The 16 mg ProDura dose may be underdosed.

A 2018 clinical trial on probiotic supplementation to treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) used a Bacillus coagulans dose of 333.33 mg, or over 20x the amount in Bio Complete 3. Another clinical trial on Bacillus coagulans for IBS also used a 333.33 mg dose.

We are unable to identify any clinical research suggesting that ProDura is effective for improving gut health at a dose as low as in this supplement.

Overall we do not consider Bio Complete 3 likely to be effective for improving gut health, given that we are unable to identify any active ingredients we consider effectively dosed based on clinical research.

There’s a theme of underdosed ingredients in Gundry MD supplements that we’ve reviewed, as we documented in our Total Restore reviews article (another Gundry MD product).

Does Bio Complete 3 Cause Side Effects?

Bio Complete 3 does not appear to have been studied in any clinical trials, so it’s impossible to say for certain whether or not the supplement causes side effects. However, we can make an educated guess based on its ingredients.

The only ingredient in this formulation that we consider potentially likely to cause side effects is the probiotic blend ProDura, because probiotics at high doses can cause gastrointestinal distress like bloating and indigestion.

Unfortunately, because Gundry MD lists the dose of this ingredient in mg instead of colony-forming units (CFU), which is the standard for probiotics, we cannot determine if this ingredient has a high dose or not.

One good thing about this supplement is that it’s free of questionable added ingredients like added sugar or artificial food dye.

Overall we do not consider Bio Complete 3 likely to cause side effects, but we urge Gundry MD to publish the dose of the probiotic ingredient in CFU, and to explain the ingredient blend in CoreBiome, so that consumers (and researchers like us) can make a more informed determination.

While we don’t recommend Bio Complete 3, for consumers intent on purchasing the supplement, it’s worth noting that it’s significantly cheaper on Amazon than on the Gundry MD website at the time of updating this article.

Questionable Health Claims

There are a number of questionable health claims on the Bio Complete 3 product page. A few are shown above.

The brand claims that their supplement can replace fatigue with a feeling of youth and energy, can improve digestion and can reduce cravings for unhealthy foods. None of these claims are medically cited, and the asterisk at the end of each claim simply corresponds to a notice that “Every individual is unique.”

We recommend that consumers entirely disregard health claims made by brands that provide no proof of such claims, and we urge Gundry MD to either provide evidence supporting these claims or remove them from their website.

Our Recommended Gut Health Supplement

The gut health supplement we recommend is Supergut Fiber Mix. This supplement provides 8 grams (g) of fiber per serving and contains no questionable additive ingredients. The only ingredients are a blend of fiber powders including green banana powder resistant starch and resistant potato starch.

A medical review published in the Advances in Nutrition journal analyzed data from various clinical trials and concluded that resistant starch intake was associated with improved gut health, weight loss in overweight and obese individuals, and improved insulin resistance.

The top positive review from a verified purchaser comes from a user named “Arnold Gregory” who claims that the supplement improved symptoms of bloating and other symptoms of indigestion:
