Though Kim Kardashian‘s never-ending desire to play the field was said to be the reason for her brief relationship with Gabriel Aubry fizzling out, it turns out that someone else was to blame: Halle Berry.

As the custody war between Berry and Aubry over their 2-year-old daughter, Nahla, continues to unfold, a new People report claims the Oscar winner was none too pleased by her ex’s relationship with the reality star.

“Halle was very upset,” a Berry source told the magazine. “She was upset at the idea of someone like that being in her daughter’s life.”

The source added that Berry, 44, was “aggravated” by Kardashian’s reality star status.

Aubry’s romance with Kardashian got off to a promising start last fall, with the two spending Thanksgiving together shortly after their first public appearance at a Lakers game in November.

Another insider confirmed to People that it was less about whom the 35-year-old Aubry dates and more about the buxom brunette’s lifestyle.

“She just didn’t want Nahla exposed to the cameras that are undoubtedly around a reality star,” the insider said.

But a source close to Aubry countered that Nahla was never around the 30-year-old Kardashian.

“Gabriel wanted to make sure he dated someone for six months before he introduced them to his daughter,” the source said. “There was never for a second a thought by Kim or Gabriel that Nahla would ever go near cameras.”

And Berry’s own love life caused problems as well, according to the magazine.

Aubry was reportedly still living with the actress in Beverly Hills as recently as September, when her romance with her “Dark Tides” co-star Olivier Martinez started heating up.

The model “liked their arrangement before Olivier came into the picture,” a source said. “Nahla was their focus, and they worked together. All of a sudden, things became a lot more complicated.”

For instance, Berry allegedy began to cut Aubry out of important decisions about their daughter, such as which preschool to enroll her in.

“Halle likes to be in control and wants to make all the big decisions regarding Nahla without having to ask Gabriel,” a friend of Martinez’s told People. “They have no contact, and Halle complains and asks Olivier for advice every day.”

As for reports that Aubry hurled racial slurs at the movie star, whom he dated for four years, some sources suggested Berry has been verbally abusive as well.

“She would call screaming on his phone,” a source told the magazine.

A RadarOnline.com source also described an e-mail Berry allegedly sent that told her ex: “You were only good for one thing… Thanks for the donation.”

The insider also admitted that the French-Canadian had occasionally lost his temper when he was allegedly provoked, even once calling Berry “a f—— b—-,” but insisted he never used any racial epithets.

“Halle’s timing in these ‘revelations’ speaks volumes,” the source said. “It’s amazing how she’s only now chosen to come forward about all this ‘abuse’ and Gabriel’s ‘bad parenting’ basically after he went to court to legally establish his parental rights.”

“All Gabriel wanted was to ensure his legal, entitled access to his daughter, and to not have to be at the mercy of Halle’s moods as to when and how he could see Nahla,” said the source.
