People are obsessed with Harry Styles’ phallic banana necklace

Harry Styles has once again caught our attention with his choice of fashion, this time for sporting a phallic banana necklace.

For his ‘Watermelon Sugar’ performance at the Grammy Awards, in Los Angeles on Sunday, the notoriously flamboyant singer wore a Gucci necklace with a penis coming out of a banana skin.

The suggestive piece of jewellery was revealed when the singer removed a green feather boa while on stage, underneath was the gold cross chain and the cheeky trinket.

The item description on the brand’s website reads: “A message about leaving behind fashion’s old rules” and “portraying this uninhibited freedom of expression”, the shiny sterling silver pendant necklace has interlocking G details, and a small yellow enamel banana, and is priced at $450 (£324).

Styles was also wearing a custom black suit with his chest exposed during the song.

The former One Direction frontman took home an award for Best Pop Solo Performance at the Grammys, beating fellow nominees Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Due Lipa and Taylor Swift. He was also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Music Video.

At the event, Styles gave a speech wearing a Gucci yellow and green tweed jacket, a purple feather boa and plum velvet flares.

He thanked everyone who made the record with him and exclaimed “all the songs are f**king massive, so thank you so much”. The televised version had to be bleeped out for the live US audience.

The singer’s stylist Harry Lambert said he wanted the look to be “British and eccentric”. Speaking to Vogue, he explained that the outfit was “a little bit rock ‘n’ roll and a little bit camp”.

In December, Styles appeared on the cover of American Vogue in a dress, also by Gucci.

His Vogue cover outfit prompted criticism from conservative pundits like Candice Owens. “There is no society that can survive without strong men,” tweeted Owens. “The East knows this. In the west, the steady feminization of our men at the same time that Marxism is being taught to our children is not a coincidence. It is an outright attack”.
