Why does Harry Styles wear skirts and dresses?
Harry Styles explained why he likes wearing skirts and dresses in an interview with The Guardian’s “Weekend” magazine. He defended the queer connotations of dressing more feminine and revealed that he dresses this way because he thinks “it looks cool.”
Styles’ outfit choices have generated an important discussion around gendered fashion and blurring the stereotypes. Harry explained: “I’m not just sprinkling in sexual ambiguity to be interesting, I want things to look a certain way. Not because it makes me look gay, or it makes me look straight, or it makes me look bisexual, but because I think it looks cool.”
The pop star also made history as the first man to be on the cover of American Vogue. What was even more fabulous is that he was wearing a dress in the front cover photograph. Styles was dressed in full Gucci, with a blue gown and a black suit jacket over it.
Some people raised eyebrows at the cover including Candace Owens who took to Twitter saying: “Bring back manly men.” Whereas the majority praised Harry for exploring his femininity and discovering different ways to make a fashion statement.

Harry Styles encourages fans to ‘be themselves’
In an interview with NPR, Styles revealed that he didn’t want to be a “hypocrite.” As he wears nail polish and dresses this way when he’s not working, Styles wanted to stay true to himself and do the same whilst on stage.
He recalled the moment he realized fans liked him for who he was: “For me, it’s not like doing it to send a message. Part of being on the last tour, when people came to watch the show, I realized “Oh, these people just want to see me be myself, and I’m telling them to be themselves.”
Harry acknowledges that his freedom to explore gender fluidity in fashion is a privileged position to be in: “I’m lucky that I work in an industry that allows you to be creative and express yourself, and I’d encourage it to anybody.”
