This song is about a guy who has had previous relationships go seriously wrong and love is now foreign to him. He doesn’t know how to love someone and is incapable for fulfilling his ‘man’ role in a relationship. He battles whether to start a relationship with a girl he thinks he might love, but isn’t sure if it’s love because he’s forgotten what it feels like. He figures out that because he cares so much for this girl, he actually does love her and is trying to work on how to show her the love she deserves, when he is so clueless. He is angry at himself for being incapable of love but overwhelming cares for this girl. so is confused but eventually the only thing he becomes sure of is that he definitely does love her very deeply and that is all that matters.

“Settle down with me” Let’s commit to a relationship. I will try to get out of my patterns with relationships and learn how to love you without messing it up.

“Cover me up” Show affection, look after me. Let all my old mistakes be forgotten ‘covered up’ by this new relationship that has potential.

“Cuddle me in” Show affection, look after me – twist from ‘tuck me in to bed’ Allow the affection to get inside me and make my heart feel love, because I don’t know how to love you.

“You heart’s against my chest” We’re close, physically connecting. You have a heart that feels love, but I’m incapable of love and instead of our hearts connecting, yours is just touching my empty, heartless chest.

“I’m falling for your eyes, but they don’t know me yet” I think I’m falling in love with you, but I don’t really know how to love, and when you find this out you won’t want me. You don’t know that I’m incapable and I’m scared you will find out.

“With a feeling I’ll forget, I’m in love now” I feel like I love you, but I have been incapable of love in the past, so I think it might be a phase because true love seems unreal.

“Kiss me like you wanna be loved” Give me a sign that you want me to love you, despite my past inability to show love. Every relationship in the past I have messed up and I don’t think I know how to love you. Tell me I can do it, and you will fight for me.

“This feels like falling in love” I don’t know what love feels like because I’ve never felt it before, but I think this might be it.

“And I’ll be your safety You’ll be my lady” We could try and have a normal relationship, I will try to be your man/protector and you will be my lady and I will take care of you.

“I was made to keep your body warm But I’m cold as the wind blows so hold me in your arms” I am supposed to be the man of the relationship and fulfill my promise (in the previous lines) to protect you and look after you, but I don’t know how to love you or have a successful relationship with you, I need your help.

“Yeah I’ve been feeling everything From hate to love From love to lust From lust to truth” At first I was too scared to start a relationship with you so I blew you off (hate) Then I realized I cared really deeply about you, but still didn’t think I was capable of loving you the way you deserve (love) Then I realized I just had to have you my love is too strong, I have to give this relationship a try even though I don’t know how to love you (lust) Now I see that the relationship is going to be hard for me because I can’t be your rock and be your man, I’m not strong enough and I don’t know how to love, I’m traumatized from other relationships and it’s going to be hard to love someone again. “I guess that’s how I know you” All the emotions (in the previous lines) have been confusing for me, but now eventually I understand how hard our relationship will be, but I am definitely sure I know you’re the one so it’s worth it.

“So I hold you close to help you give it up” I’m trying to learn to love you, so I will keep trying until you ‘give up’ the secret of how to love you, please you, protect you, and be the man I should be.
