Those who were following the NFL draft process back in 2017 would probably remember that it was one of those quarterback classes which had three genuine contenders in Deshaun Watson, Mitchell Trubisky and Patrick Mahomes. While there were many analysts and scouts who believed that Mahomes was behind both of his competitors from that class, fast forward six years and the whole story is different.

Starting out as a backup quarterback to Alex Smith in his rookie year, Mahomes took the driver’s seat from 2018 onwards. Since then, he has arguably been the man to beat each year. Mahomes has led the Kansas City Chiefs to the AFC Conference Finals in each year he has started for the team, and the most surprising aspect is that the Chiefs have played all five of those games at home in Arrowhead Stadium. So, with so many Conference Championship games under his belt, it begs the question of how many Super Bowls has Mahomes actually won?

After reaching the AFC Conference Finals five straight times, Mahomes and the Chiefs marched to the Super Bowl on three of those occasions. Mahomes won his first Lombardi trophy in his very first attempt in Super Bowl LIV in the 2019 NFL season. In this game, Mahomes went up against the Jimmy Garoppolo-led San Francisco 49ers. While the teams were tied at 10 at the half and then trailed 20-10 by the end of the third, Mahomes worked his magic and with just over six minutes left in the game, the Chiefs scored 21 unanswered points to clinch their second title ever and first in fifty years. Mahomes completed 26 out of 42 passes for 286 yards and that included two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also added another rushing touchdown on his way to his first Super Bowl MVP.

Frigid conditions can’t cool off Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes

Continuing his great form and play over the next couple of years, Mahomes looked like he could win another Super Bowl in 2020 and 2021. However, the Chiefs were defeated in the final game by Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and in the AFC conference game by Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals respectively.

Mahomes once again got back to the summit clash in the 2022 season winning his second championship in Super Bowl LVII. This time he went up against Jalen Hurts and the mighty Philadelphia Eagles defense. Once again the Chiefs found themselves down 24-14 at the half and it looked like the Eagles would go on to win the game. However, the Chiefs were able to outscore the Eagles 24-11 in the second half aided by two trick play touchdown passes that earned Mahomes his second ring. Getting off to a slow start, Mahomes finished the game with incredible figures that read 21 out of 27 passes completed, for 187 yards including three touchdowns. He was also effective running the ball for 44 yards from 6 carries but it is important to note that he had 51 yards before two kneel downs late in the game.

Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl Losses

In his short NFL career of six years till now, Mahomes has already managed to play in three Super Bowls. Sadly for him, though, Super Bowl LV ended with the Buccaneers completely outplaying the Chiefs with the final score reading 31-9 handing Mahomes his first Championship loss. The Chiefs in this game were fielding a very depleted offensive line with several key starters unable to play due to injuries. The Buccaneers’ defense on their part tore up the Chiefs’ offensive line and had Mahomes scrambling around the field for the entire game.
