SSBMRank

SSBMRank

SSBMRank, also called MPGR in some iterations, is an annual ranking of the top 100 Melee players. SSBMRank uses a panel system, where individual ballots from players and community figures are compiled to form the final ranking.

Movements up or down the rankings are defined relative to the previous full-year ranking, as the summer rankings feature fewer players.

Ranking Details[edit]

SSBMRank[edit]

Conceived by Melee It On Me, SSBMRank was created to form a ranking that spanned the entirety of North America. To compile the ranking, top players, tournament organizers, commentators, and figureheads are asked to rate players on a scale from 1 to 10. The highest and lowest scores for each player were removed, then the scores were averaged to arrive at a final score.

For the 2013 ranking, players had to attend at least one US tournament to be eligible, while for the 2014 ranking, they had to place well at a US national (Apex 2014, 2014 MLG Anaheim, CEO 2014, EVO 2014, The Big House 4) or attend several US regionals. This criteria excludes skilled players who were not active during the year and international players who did not attend US tournaments. Furthermore, some tournaments at the end of the year were excluded from consideration.

MPGR[edit]

Starting in 2018, the rankings were rebranded to MPGR, and were created in a collaboration between Melee It On Me and PGstats, part of Panda. In later years, the ranking was solely managed by PGstats. In 2021 the MPGR Contenders Tier List was released. This serves as a replacement for rankings in 2021 due to Covid-19.

Return to SSBMRank[edit]

Due to widespread condemnation of Panda following the cancellation of the Smash World Tour 2022, key individuals split from the organization. Consequently, the rankings reverted to its original name of SSBMRank. Melee It On Me and Melee Stats collaborated on the 2022 edition of the rankings.
