Prior to his marriage to American singer, songwriter, model, and businesswoman Ciara, Wilson was married to Ashton Meem for two years.
Who is Russell Wilson’s ex-wife, Ashton Meem?
Ashton Meem was born on September 6, 1987, and is known as the first wife of the NFL quarterback, Russell Wilson.
The 35-year-old received a Bachelor’s degree in communications from North Carolina State University in 2010, and according to her LinkedIn profile, she has been working as an Advertising Operations Assistant at American Family Insurance for over 12 years.
Meem also works as an Account Executive at Morton Consulting LLC and has been there for over 11 years.
Despite formally being married to a high-profile athlete, Meem managed to stay out of the spotlight and not much additional information is available on her.
When did Wilson and Meem get divorced?
Wilson and Meem tied the knot on January 14, 2012, at a Country Club in Virginia – the same year he was drafted into the NFL.
Just two years later, in April 2014, the couple announced their divorce.
“I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce,” Wilson said in a statement according to The Seattle Times.
“Clearly, decisions like these don’t come easy. Ashton and I respectfully ask for prayers, understanding, and privacy during this difficult time. Moving forward, I will have no further comment on this personal matter.”
While the exact reason for their divorce remains unclear, many fans believed that it had to do with a rumored affair between Meem and Wilson’s former teammate, Golden Tate.
Despite rumors, Tate and Meem both denied the allegations.
“I did not have an affair with Russell Wilson’s wife, nor did I have anything to do with his divorce,” Tate wrote in a statement at the time.
“That is laughable for anyone who knows us…Russell and I were good friends when I was in Seattle, on and off the field -he knows the rumors about me were unfounded, damaging to my reputation, and an attack on my character. Anyone who circulated that rumor was just plain irresponsible.”
Did Wilson and Meem have any children together?
During their marriage, the former couple never welcomed any children.
Wilson’s first child did not come until his second marriage to Ciara. The pair currently share two children and are patiently awaiting their third.
Their first child and daughter, Sienna Princess, was born on April 29, 2017, while their second child and son, Win Harrison Wilson, was born on July 23, 2020.
On August 8, 2023, Ciara took to Instagram to share a video revealing that she is pregnant, once again.
“‘You look at me like that again, we make another kid…You my heart I’m your rib’ 🥰😘❤️” she captioned the post.
Although Ciara’s upcoming baby will be her third child with Wilson, she also shares a son, Future Zahir, with former fiancé, rapper Future. Future was born on May 19, 2014.
