How many times has Tiger Woods won the Masters and when did he last win the green jacket?

The 2023 Masters Tournament, held annually at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, is right around the corner.

The year’s first major golf championship event will see golf legend Tiger Woods make his 25th Masters start on Thursday, 6 April 2023.

The 47-year-old came back during last year’s Masters’ tournament only 14 months after a life-threatening crash that left him tied for 47th place. Many fans, however, considered the game a win for Woods, who beat his opponent: his reconstructed leg.

Let’s take a look at the Master’s history of the legend:

Tiger Woods Masters history

The Masters is one of the most celebrated major golf tournaments for several reasons, primarily due to the green jacket awarded to the champion. The coveted jacket symbolizes golf royalty and is desired by all golfers worldwide. However, only 54 players have been able to earn the jacket since the tradition started in 1949.

Woods has won the Masters a total of five times. His victories came in 1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2019. Only Jack Nicklaus has more (six).

The only time Woods failed to make the cut at the Masters was in 1996 when he was still an amateur. The year after, Woods played the Masters for the first time after turning professional and won by a record 12 strokes to claim the first of five Green Jackets. He was just 21 at the time.

That is still the most significant margin of victory in the history of Augusta.

The American won the tournament again in 2001, then repeated the feat the following year to grab back-to-back victories in 2002.

He became only the third golfer to clinch consecutive Masters trophies after Jack Nicklaus, who won in 1965 and 1966, and Nick Faldo, who was champion in 1989 and 1990.

In 2005, Woods won his fourth Masters Tournament. Then, after a significant drought of 11 years filled with injuries and personal issues, Woods won his fifth green jacket in 2019 at age 43.

Woods is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time. He has the highest number of PGA Tour wins, with 82 and is ranked second in the most number of victories in major tournaments. Additionally, he has several golf records to his name.
