Manchester United land in Los Angeles ahead of US tour with £75m bumper signing Romelu Lukaku expected to be unveiled as a Red Devils player

Manchester United have touched down in the US ahead of their tour which will see them come up against rivals Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid and LA Galaxy.

Winger Jesse Lingard was the first United player to let fans know they had landed in Los Angeles.

Lingard, sat alongside team-mate Marcus Rashford, uploaded a video to social media site Snapchat.

‘Touch down in LA,’ he can be heard saying before showing viewers a shot of the runway below as their plane was landing.

United’s Spanish contingent Ander Herrera, David de Gea and Juan Mata also posted videos and pictures on social media.

And the club posted an Instagram video of the players stepping off their team bus and walking into their Los Angeles hotel.

As revealed by Herrera’s Instagram post, United are staying in five-star luxury at the Montage, voted the city’s best in the Conde Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice awards.

It boasts a spa offering ‘holistic wellness therapies’ and ‘cutting edge fitness classes’, according to their website.

The Montage also has a selection of top class restaurants, including one on the roof with view of the city.

As much as the tour will provide manager Jose Mourinho with a chance to assess his players, it will also be the first opportunity Romelu Lukaku will have had to meet all of his new United team-mates after spending time with Paul Pogba in LA last week.

Mourinho, who signed autographs and posed with supporters in Manchester on Saturday before flying out, will be hoping Lukaku can quickly get used to his fellow United players.

The Red Devils named 27-man squad for the trip and the £75million new boy Lukaku will be the 28th member when he is officially unveiled during the tour.

United will meet LA Galaxy on July 15 at the StubHub Center in Carson before moving on to play Real Salt Lake two days later in the Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy.

Mourinho will come up against Pep Guardiola’s City on July 20 when the two sides meet at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas in the International Champions Cup.

It will be the first time both managers will get an opportunity to compare where each other are heading into the new Premier League season.

The two other high profile matches in the lucrative pre-season tournament come against Real Madrid and Barcelona. United take on last year’s Champions League winners at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara after a four-hour flight.

Ernesto Valverde’s Barcelona will be United’s last opponents in the States at the FedEx Field in Landover.

All three of the Cup games are expected to attract bumper crowds as football fans clamour to see four of the world’s biggest clubs.

The NRG Stadium has a capacity of 72,000, the Levi’s Stadium can pack in 68,500 while the FedEx Field holds the most at 82,000.

United’s players won’t get much rest after playing City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

They are due back in Europe at the end of the month. Mourinho will take his team to Norway to play Valerenga on July 30 before travelling back west for a meeting with Sampdoria at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

That will prime the United players ahead of the final of the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid at the Philip II Arena in the Macedonian capital of Skopje.

The Red Devils kick off the new Premier League season at Old Trafford on August 8 when they host West Ham United.

One player who will be absent from the US tour will be Wayne Rooney, who has opted to rejoin Everton on a free transfer.
