The 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale offers a forward-looking plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.3L MultiAir turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a 15.5 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, with a 90 kilowatt electric motor on the rear axle. Together, the system produces a combined 272 peak horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in 6 seconds. In electric mode, the plug-in hybrid Tonale can drive on pure electric power for more than 30 miles. Using a 240-volt, Level 2 charger, you can recharge the Tonale battery in about 2.5 hours.
Customize the performance of your new Tonale with Alfa Romeo D.N.A. drive modes — Dual Power/Dynamic, Natural, and Advanced Efficiency. For maximum performance, keep the Tonale in Dual Power mode and receive power from both the gasoline engine and rear electric motor. Natural mode lets the Tonale determine when to engage the gasoline or electric power, and Advanced Efficiency starts you with power from the battery and rear electric motor, then switches over to hybrid power once the battery has reached its lower charge limit. If you want to save the battery for use later in your drive, eSave mode lets you do so.
