Why Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s parents did not watch NFL game together

All eyes were on the Kelce family on Monday Night Football as brother Travis and Jason squared off – but there was no sign of Taylor Swift or her family watching on from the stands.

Cameras showed mom Donna Kelce watching the game, while dad Ed was also at the game, as well as Jason’s wife Kylie. But Travis’ new girlfriend Swift was unable to attend after a late change to her schedule.

There was speculation Swift would fly from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to attend the game in Kansas City before she resumes the South American leg of her tour in Sao Paulo on Friday. But extreme weather conditions in Brazil saw her forced to postpone Saturday’s concert and reschedule for Monday, clashing with the ‘Kelce Bowl’.

Not only did that mean she was unable to watch Travis, it also stopped an introduction between the two sets of parents. Entertainment Tonight reported before her schedule changed that her parents, Andrea and Scott, were planning to attend the game and meet Donna and Ed Kelce.

It seemed a perfect opportunity given Scott Swift grew up a Philadelphia Eagles fan and met Travis in Argentina the previous week. Taylor has also met both of Kelce’s parents on previous appearances at games this season.

However, their plans never materialized because of Swift’s late change in schedule. According to TMZ, it was determined that it just didn’t make sense for their first meeting to take place once it became apparent Swift wouldn’t be able to make it and Kelce would be on the field playing.

With the couple making plans to spend the holidays together, there could still be a meeting on the cards in the near future. The subject of Scott’s NFL fandom could be up for discussion after the lifelong Eagles fan was given a Chiefs lanyard when he hung out with Travis at Taylor’s tour last weekend.

Brother Jason jokingly disapproved of that change in loyalty. Speaking on their latest podcast episode, ‘New Heights’, earlier this week, Jason joked: “You’re gonna let this man’s devilishly good looks and relationship with your daughter sway you from a lifetime of fandom, Scott? This is ridiculous.”

Travis laughed before replying: “Got him over to the good side, baby.”

Travis also offered an apology to Taylor’s dad after Jason pointed out he left him hanging when he went for a high-five after she changed the lyrics of her song, ‘Karma’ to reference him.

“Yeah Mr. Swift I apologize, big guy,” Travis said. “Oh man, I missed that. I never miss a high-five five too, I’m a big high-five guy. It’s the most electric thing you can do at an event, so sorry Mr. Swift.”

Meanwhile, Travis’ mom, Donna, told Good Morning America ahead of the game that she approves of the relationship and is confident they can cope with the huge publicity coming their way.

She said: “I think the attention is just part of the whole thing obviously it’s a megastar and I think Travis is embracing it as much as he can so I think it’s okay.

“He likes attention so he’ll be fine as long as he can handle it,” she added. “I don’t have any problems with it she’s a very nice person.”
