How Many Picks Do the Eagles Have in 2024?

The Eagles are projected to have nine draft picks in 2024.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has established himself as one of the sharpest minds in football with his array of trades throughout the last few years. Despite having a terrific roster, the Eagles have a ton of draft pick capital. Hitting on draft picks has allowed them to recoup compensatory picks to help replenish the roster with affordable talent.

The best asset Roseman acquired for 2024 is the Saints’ second-rounder, which came via a draft-day trade in 2022. Philadelphia and New Orleans swapped eight picks, with the final being the Saints’ second-rounder. New Orleans ended up taking Chris Olave and Trevor Penning.

Philadelphia has traded all their picks from Rounds 3 through 7 in various deals.

Their third-round pick was used to trade up for CB Kelee Ringo last year. Moving up one spot for Jalen Carter in 2023 cost their fourth-round pick. Various deals involving Kevin Byard, Kentavius Street, Jalen Reagor, Ugo Amadi, and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson have affected their picks.

The Eagles have dominated the compensatory pick game. By losing Javon Hargrave (49ers), Andre Dillard (Titans), Miles Sanders (Panthers), Isaac Seumalo (Steelers), and Gardner-Johnson (Lions), the team will be restocked with the maximum number of draft picks possible.

Who Did the Eagles Draft in 2023?

All eyes were focused on the trio of Bulldogs defenders included in the Eagles’ 2023 class: Carter, Nolan Smith, and Ringo. These players had great success in college and have proven to be elite athletes and valuable contributors at the three most important positions on defense. Additionally, each player fits well with the Eagles’ aggressive defense strategy.

Although Carter was the most controversial player in the draft, due to various self-inflicted setbacks during the process, such as being charged with a misdemeanor that resulted in a year of probation and gaining nine pounds between the NFL Combine and his pro day, he was still considered the best overall player in the class. Thus far, the gamble on Carter has been well worth it.

It was always more likely that Smith and Ringo would make contributions in 2024 rather than 2023, as the Eagles have a strong lineup in both positions. That’s held true, with both players hardly seeing the field at all. Despite some physical limitations, they bring experience and physicality that will prepare them for their roles when called upon.

Philadelphia also has Tyler Steen, Tanner McKee, and Moro Ojomo competing for backup roles in positions of need. Third-rounder Sydney Brown seemed to be in a position to earn early playing time, but between the acquisition of Byard and the breakout of Reed Blankenship, Brown has been a low-usage role player.
