James “Jim” Robert Lott Jr., 67, died Monday, June 26, 2023, at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center after a nine-month long, hard-fought battle with cancer.

He was born January 25, 1956, in Austin, TX, to James “Tad” Robert Lott Sr. and Opal Lott. His family moved up to Denton and planted roots, where he spent his days learning the family business with his younger siblings Lori and John. A graduate of Kemper Military School, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1977 to 1983. His unique M.O. as a submariner during the Cold War era sets him apart from most, as few were brave enough to venture down into the deep for months at a time. When he was released from active duty in 1981, he joined the Marines Reserves as a hospital corpsman until he was honorably discharged in 1983.

Following in the family footsteps, Jim graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor’s degree in public health. He also ran a popular, lively music bar near campus known as The Library, where he helped many promising musicians begin their careers.

After traveling around the country for work, Jim finally settled in Denver, CO, where he became a key asset to one of the nation’s largest nurse staffing agencies, Nursefinders. He understood the business well and finally started his own company, Nursecorps, staffing nurses all over hospitals in Colorado.

Jim was a devoted father and a proud homeowner. After retiring early, he spent most of his days working on new projects around the house, happy to show family and friends each finished feature. He enjoyed watching sports, especially supporting his brother John’s career in the NFL as a strength and conditioning coach. Jim loved listening to the music of his era, from the likes of Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens, to the Beatles, Chicago and the Mamas and the Papas. Towards the later years of his life, Jim spent his time walking around the local park and drinking coffee at the local cafe. He inherited a cluster of apartments known as the Zodiac Apartments, established by his late parents, of which he continued to put care and effort into the foundation, as he learned how to do since his childhood.

He is survived by his only daughter, Kali Lott. He is predeceased by his parents and older sister, Linda Rogers.
