How Many Picks Do the 49ers Have in 2024?

San Francisco is projected to have 11 draft picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The 49ers will be granted the second of three third-round compensatory picks for losing DeMeco Ryans (who became the Houston Texans’ head coach) and Ran Carthon (who joined the Tennessee Titans as their GM) this past offseason. Although the signing of Javon Hargrave offset the departure of Jimmy Garoppolo, the loss of Mike McGlinchey resulted in the acquisition of a third-round pick.

One of those two compensatory third-rounders will go to Washington as part of the Chase Young trade. San Francisco received Dallas’ fourth-round pick for QB Trey Lance and Denver’s seventh-round pick in exchange for Randy Gregory and their sixth-round pick.

Over the past two seasons, the 49ers have received a total of seven compensatory picks in 2023 and are projected to receive five more in 2024, making them the undisputed leaders in the compensatory picks leaderboard.

Who Did the 49ers Draft in 2023?

In the 2023 NFL Draft, the 49ers had to follow their unique strategy due to circumstances beyond their control. They didn’t have their first pick until late in Round 3, so they had to wait for the board to play out before making any moves.

Despite their limitations, the 49ers successfully added talented players to their team. Their first pick, Ji’Ayir Brown, is a safety with great size and playmaking abilities who has earned a bigger role after Talanoa Hufanga suffered a season-ending injury. Darrell Luter Jr. is a competitive cornerback with impressive length and explosiveness.

Cameron Latu converted from EDGE to TE in college and showed promise with his improved hands and route-running skills, but he’s yet to make an impact in the NFL.

The 49ers also added more talent to their roster on Day 3, selecting EDGE Robert Beal Jr., TE/FB Brayden Willis, LBs Dee Winters and Jalen Graham, and WR Ronnie Bell. None of those players have made an impact in their first year, which isn’t surprising.

They picked the first kicker in the draft, Jake Moody from Michigan, with their first compensatory pick in the third round.

Overall, this class doesn’t have the most pressure on it because of when the picks came and the strength of the roster, but Moody and Brown have at least been able to hit the field early.
