She has one of the most in-demand Las Vegas residencies of all time, holds the record for the fastest-selling album by any artist and reportedly turned down an opportunity to play at the coronation of Britain’s newest monarch, but American audiences were able to see megastar Adele in an intimate concert experience almost every weekend this year—for a hefty price.

Key Background

Adele first announced Weekends with Adele in November of 2021. The 100,000 tickets that went on sale following the initial 24-concert announcement sold out within six hours for an average gross of $2.2 million for each show. The performance includes a 20-track set list, the longest of her career, and videos of Adele telling jokes, recounting stories and interacting with the crowd are frequent viral favorites on TikTok and Instagram. Adele has announced extensions to the tour twice: A second round of 34 shows wrapped up in November and she’s since added 32 more, extending the residency through June 2024

Crucial Quote

“I’m very, very involved,” Adele recently told the Hollywood Reporter of her residency. “I’d decided to go completely back to the drawing board.”

Big Number

$2 million. That’s how much Adele personally made per show in the second run of her residency (34 shows performed between June and November of this year), according to the New York Post. .

Surprising Fact

In a recent interview, Adele said there is only one concertgoer who has ever made her nervous: Lady Gaga. “I was like, “The show’s terrible. It’s rubbish. I’m singing terribly. I’m not funny. My dress is rubbish this week,” she said. “I was judging myself. And she’s not like that. But she made me really, really nervous.”

Despite her year of record-breaking success, Adele continues to be one of Swift’s only true equals in the music world. The debut of Swift’s “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” earlier this year was the second-largest album release of all time by a woman, but it still sold less than half of Adele’s “25,” which was released in 2015. In 2021, Adele and Swift together dominated the year’s album sales. Adele’s “30” beat every other title by hundreds of thousands of sales, but Swift claimed four of the 10 best selling albums in the U.S. that year with “Red (Taylor’s Version)” in second place, “Evermore” in fourth, “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” in fifth and “Folklore” in eighth place. Swift and Adele are the only women to have won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year twice (Adele did it first, but Swift has now won three times). Adele last year called Swift “one of the greatest songwriters of our generation.”
