Video when to pick todd gurley

Fantasy football season is in the air and the unique offseason is causing more questions than answers as we enter our fantasy football drafts. Below, we focus on Atlanta Falcons RB Todd Gurley and his fantasy football potential this year.

Todd Gurley’s fantasy football ADP

Gurley currently has an average draft position (ADP of 29.13, going as high as No. 1 in some drafts and as low as 120th in others, according to MyFantasyLeague.com. That makes him RB15 in terms of ADP, behind Arizona Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake and Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders.

Reasons to draft Todd Gurley

  • Gurley gets a fresh start with the Falcons, returning to Georgia where he played his college ball. In an offense that features QB Matt Ryan and WR Julio Jones, he won’t have to be the main catalyst in Atlanta.
  • The Falcons don’t have much proven talent behind Gurley on the depth chart, which is an indication that he should get the bulk of the carries. RBs Brian Hill, Qadree Ollison and Ito Smith are his backups.
  • Even in a down year yardage-wise, Gurley still scored 14 touchdowns in 15 games for the Los Angeles Rams last season, his third straight season with at least 14 scores.

Reasons not to draft Todd Gurley

  • The lingering questions about his knee have not gone away, especially with Gurley getting rest days in training camp on a regular basis.
  • He didn’t look like the same running back last season as he was in 2018, lacking burst and explosiveness through the hole.
  • He only caught 31 passes for 207 yards in 2019, making him one of the least-efficient pass catchers in the NFL. He also dropped seven of his 49 targets.

Where should I draft Todd Gurley in fantasy football drafts?

Gurley remains a relevant fantasy player because of his nose for the end zone and standing in the Falcons backfield. There isn’t much in his way to being Atlanta’s workhose runner, and with how often Ryan likes to target his running backs, he should be in for an improvement as a receiver.

However, his ADP is currently ahead of Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor, Seattle Seahawks RB Chris Carson and Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner, but Gurley will have a hard time outproducing those players.

He should be going around the third or fourth round, behind the aforementioned running backs, and after Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp, Dallas Cowboys WR Amari Cooper and even Cleveland Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr. Gurley’s upside is limited by that balky knee, which clearly isn’t 100 percent healthy and could hinder his workload and/or production.
