Where Are Jim Nantz and Tony Romo? CBS Duo Get Weekend Off

You will notice this week that the lead team for CBS — Jim Nantz, Tony Romo, and Tracy Wolfson — are not calling a game. The simple reason is that they are off after calling two games last week, and FOX has the doubleheader this week.

The team called the Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day before going to broadcast the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday.

Time Off for Lead Teams

We saw FOX’s lead team, Kevin Burkhardt, Greg Olsen, Erin Andrews, and Tom Rinaldi, not call a Sunday game last week after calling the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving. CBS had the doubleheader last week; FOX had five games. The team is back this week for the NFC Championship Game rematch between the 49ers and Eagles in the late afternoon doubleheader window on FOX.

NBC’s Cris Collinsworth called the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks on Thanksgiving night and took off last Sunday night’s game between the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers. He is back this week for the Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. Collinsworth’s partner, Mike Tirico, called both NBC games last week and will be in the booth tonight.

What’s Ahead for Jim Nantz, Tony Romo, and Tracy Wolfson?

The CBS lead crew should be in Kansas City next for the late afternoon doubleheader game between the Bills and Chiefs. That would be the crew’s third Bills game in a month. They were on the call for the Week 11 game against the New York Jets and last week’s game in Philadelphia.

In Week 15, the lead team will probably be in Miami for the Dolphins and Jets or in Tennessee for the Texans and Titans. They will probably be assigned the Christmas Day game between the Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders. That is one of three games played on that Monday of Week 16.

Right now, the late CBS doubleheader game in Week 17 is the Cincinnati Bengals at the Chiefs, but it’s possible that game will get flexed out if the Bengals are out of playoff contention. Playoff implications will determine their assignment for Week 18, with no games assigned right now.

The team will be busy in the playoffs, with CBS having a game every weekend of the postseason. Nantz, Romo, and Wolfson will be on the call for Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas in February.

You will not be hearing Nantz during this year’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament. He announced last year that he was broadcasting his last tournament after being the lead play-by-play announcer for the event since 1991. Ian Eagle will take his place, calling the Final Four and National Championship this year.
