NFL world reacts to Aaron Rodgers’ book selection

Every week, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers appears on The Pat McAfee Show and, every week, does something that reaffirms that he’s the most college-sophomore 38-year-old man in America. This week, Rodgers ventured into self-parody by selecting George Orwell’s “1984” as his book club pick.

Rodgers’s appearances on the program have become known for his rants about vaccines, government control, psychedelics, and other topics that your average 20-year-old Ithaca College student might dabble in. Given his stances on the state of the world, coupled with appearances by Ayn Rand books on his bookshelf, promoting “1984” sounds like the kind of thing they would do on Saturday Night Live to make fun of Rodgers. And yet…

IT IS TIME for the 2nd installment of the @AaronRodgers12 Book Club 2.0 📚📖

Rodgers not only selected “1984,” the dystopian novel by George Orwell that we all read in seventh grade, but introduced it in a way that implied he was teaching the audience about the existence of this famous book, while also attempting to draw parallels between the themes of the book and the current U.S. government.

He couldn’t be more “college sophomore who just took his first political science class” if he tried.

Naturally, the NFL world had a field day with Rodgers’ faux-intellectual selection and reasoning.

people will mock this but i think it’s nice that he finally found his psychedelics & orwell/rand phase. those can be formative years for a 40 year old! https://t.co/g2zR9BVRYz

whoever said Rodgers is becoming a 20 year old for the first time was very accurate https://t.co/QxarN75ejo

We all eagerly await next week’s book club selection, “The Fountainhead,” which we say in jest but also 100% expect to happen.
